The Problem, Found Across the Whole Portfolio and, More Often Than Not, the Fix.

Having worked in the agency world for a while (20+ years) I have seen most, if not all things that can go wrong.

From hacked sites, to domains expiring and then being snapped up by a competitor or worse, an opportunistic spammer or blackmailer.

Back in the day before WordPress, up time monitors didn’t really exist and sometimes, less than attentive users who registered domains with an email address that they no longer use or indeed, tied to an actual domain that has since expired, so things are just, well, inaccessible. These are just some of the things that I and my team have had to deal with.

Now of course we have the wonderful services like BlogVault, MainWP, WP Umbrella and others. The benefits to Agencies and Freelancers to offer full on maintenance plans to their clients are phenomenal for all concerned, clients have peace of mind and agencies and freelancers have a great recurring revenue model. I have just left a company where part of my job was maintaining over 2,500 websites and these services were invaluable and saved our teams precious hours.

However, I always felt there was something missing from these services, they almost felt disjointed. Don’t get me wrong, they are life savers in emergencies, you know, those heart stopping moments when your client calls you and tells you something is wrong with their site and you as the maintainer should have bloody well known that before they called you, sort of emergencies.

Introducing FEND with an ask – It’s at the bottom of this page as I want you, as an agency owner or freelancer to learn more about the product before signing up for the free limited Alpha.

I have known Adam Tachauer-Yates for a few years now and often meet online and IRL for a chat, he’s been running an agency white label service for maintenance for a good few years and definitely knows his stuff. I was delighted when he asked me for advice on his new WordPress and SaaS product FEND. It always makes me feel good when someone does that – I was also happy to make some suggestions on his great new offering which he implemented immediately.

As an agency managing a portfolio of WordPress sites, you are on the hook when things go wrong. Most monitoring tools stop at the alarm, leaving you with a dashboard full of red lights and hours of detective work.

Fend is different. It is a defence-and-operations layer built specifically for WordPress agencies. Fend watches every site you look after for uptime, security, and server health, and then does the next thing you actually care about: it tells you how to fix what it found, and for a growing set of problems, fixes it in a single click.

The Pattern is the Product: Detect, Then Fix

Fend believes the fix should be one click where it’s safe to be, strongest at the Cloudflare edge and the server layer and provide clear, exact steps everywhere else. You remain firmly in the loop; nothing changes a client’s site without you choosing it.

  • CPU Spikes (One-Click): A flood of traffic pins a server’s CPU. Fend catches the spike, takes a process snapshot, and names the single IP behind it. You block the IP at the Cloudflare edge with one click.
  • Missing Security Headers (One-Click): Clickjacking, MIME-sniffing, and referrer protections aren’t set. Apply the headers and re-verify straight from the dashboard.
  • Exposed Ports (One-Click): The firewall card grades your exposure instead of requiring an SSH session to check. Close the open port immediately.
  • Malware & Webshells (Guided Fix): A PHP file appears in an uploads folder. Fend lists the exact file paths so the problem is triaged, not guessed, allowing you to review and remove it rapidly.

The Four Pillars of Portfolio Defence

  1. Portfolio Audit
Continuous checks across 8 categories on every site: core integrity, plugin & theme CVEs, webshells, rogue admins, backups, and permissions. Fend builds a complete picture of your inherited technical debt on day one.
  2. Uptime & Domain Watch
Multi-probe uptime from an operator-run fleet, paired with domain-expiry and DNS record monitoring. You catch a lapsing registration or unexpected DNS change before the whole site vanishes.
  3. Server & Edge Health
Deep visibility into CPU, memory, disk, and heartbeat at the server level, plus headers, TLS, and Cloudflare posture at the edge.
  4. The Fix
One-click remediations for a growing list of findings, or precise, step-by-step instructions.

The Agency Reality

Every incident is a real pain your agency feels. Here is what changes once Fend is watching your portfolio.

The Old WayThe Fend Way
Clients find out first. The phone rings before your generic alert even fires. You make the call. Fend catches uptime, security, and integrity problems instantly.
Invisible security posture. You only know what is exposed when something breaks.Continuous visibility. WordPress-aware checks mean you know exactly what is vulnerable.
Hours of detective work. Every incident requires diagnosing a site from scratch.Immediate solutions. Fend says what broke and offers a one-click fix or exact path.
Alert fatigue. You are buried in noise and start tuning out notifications. The silent partner. Multi-probe verification, quiet hours, and a single morning digest.

Why Fend? (And Not the Tools You Already Have)

Uptime pingers don’t understand WordPress. Bulk-management dashboards update plugins but don’t defend the server or the edge. Fend sits in the gap.

  • The Fix, Not Just the Flag: Generic monitors don’t offer one-click remediation at the Cloudflare edge and server layer.
  • Portfolio-First: One unified view over 20, 50, or 100 sites, delivering a site-by-site verdict instantly.
  • WordPress-Native: Catches signals generic pingers never see, like core checksum failures, WPScan CVEs, and rogue admins. Ready for WordPress 7.* out of the box.
  • White-Label by Default: Your clients see one brand: yours. Fend stays invisible. You can even publish agency-branded public status pages.
  • Flexible Onboarding: Deploy via a server agent where you have access, or a no-shell WordPress plugin where you don’t. No infrastructure required.

Honest Transparency: The Alpha Stage

Fend is built by an operator, for operators, and is currently in Alpha.

Adam is skipping the marketing fluff. He doesn’t promise silent, autonomous, fix-everything magic. He promises a tool that finds the problem and hands you the fix. Features like one-click firewall rules, security headers, and portfolio audits are live and stable. Broader auto-remediation, wp-admin jumps, and immutable backups are currently in testing.

The Ask:

Adam is looking to onboard a small number of friendly, English-speaking WordPress agencies (managing 20+ sites) to trial the platform for a minimum of three months.

  • Cost: Completely free during the Alpha phase (indicative future pricing is £2.50 per site/month). I am still working with Adam on that aspect.
  • In Exchange: Your honest feedback. You get a direct line to the founder and the ability to shape the features your agency actually needs.

Adam knows your time is valuable and respects that. Fend, will save you time, effort and a few sleepless nights. Maintenance is not as easy as some say. You basically have to pay attention – Fend does that for you.
